I used to use a custom made can opener - a manual one - that served my purpose of opening hard-to-open cans. However, the one I've been using for years broke, so I replaced it with a 'modern' one with hinges to fit almost any jar. This one was useless so I would replace it with this automatic can opener. I'm in my 70s with arthritis in my hands and I find it difficult to open jars at best, especially ones larger than the palm of my hand. It's battery operated, very easy to use and doesn't touch your hands at all. It grips the jar with one set of handles and rotates the lid with a smaller set of handles. I love it and it works great!
