Review on πŸ” CMT 537-350-31 8 Inch Diameter Forstner Bit by Ellington Gardner

Revainrating 4 out of 5

poorly sharpened; Center burns wood

Disappointed, I bought a CMT bit based on the good results I've had with CMT bits. Poorly sharpened with wire edges that need sharpening. The outer teeth ripped through the wood instead of cutting it. The center point is too large and burnt wood (maple) was used in the test cut. . I bought a Fisch HSS bit to compare, but there is no comparison. Fish bits are high quality, properly sharpened, well designed and fantastically cut. Fish exerts significantly less force on the drill handle to cut a hole compared to CMT. Fish is more expensive but worth it if you want quality work. Returned CMT bit (made in China); happy rescued fish!

Pros
  • 2 spurs, 2 precision ground cutting edges, long lasting cutting performance
Cons
  • String is shorter than other picks
