Sharp, detachable roller pin

In the Q&A section for this product, someone mentioned that there is a roll pin that keeps the jaw from opening further, but noted that the spring may not be able to accommodate this. So I bought it to find out. You were right, the spring will fall out if the jaw opens further than the pin. However, this can be corrected by inserting something into the recesses where the spring goes. If you would like the blades to open further, the roll pin can be unscrewed with an appropriately sized bit. Unfortunately, in my case, I didn't have the right size. My bit range was one size down and one size up. So I used needle nose pliers instead, which actually crimped the barrel pin since it was a softer metal screw. I was then able to unscrew it and then put a screw in the spring itself as it fit perfectly and I could have it handy if I ever need it (so that screw is now in the cutting spring). Then I knotted the waxed thread several times until I had a ball of a diameter that worked for me and inserted that ball into the recesses where the spring enters before resetting the spring. This had to be done on both sides as the spring fits into slots on either side of the handle. When I was only editing one side, the spring would sometimes pop out if the cutter was opened too far. This balances the tension and depth of the spring, so you can work on the widest part. This led me to a cutter that can cut much larger items. I highly recommend these cutters. They feel good in the hand, cut well and, with a little tweaking, can be used in more situations than intended.

Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
