Does not support searchable PDF on Macintosh

I bought this scanner for Macintosh use. First, I had trouble installing the drivers from the included CD on both Macintoshes I tried: one worked on Snow Leopard, the second on other Mavericks (both should be supported). There is a workaround: you can manually install the Abbyy Finereader Sprint program from the installation CD and download the drivers from the Epson website. , and the downloadable PDF specification sheet from the Epson website states that the included scanner software will NOT create searchable PDFs on a Mac. Searchable PDF is an important feature for many users and this is a major disadvantage. Worse, most of Epson's Macintosh technical support team is unaware of this omission; When I called them I wasted hours of Epson tech support and forced me to uninstall and reinstall their software multiple times when they should have known that searchable PDF files are not supported on a Mac (they might support this feature, if they wanted Epson supplies Abbyy Finereader Sprint version 8 which does not support PDF searching; later versions of Abbyy software support it on Mac) Not many document feeder scanners work on Mac. It would be great if Epson did this with their advertised recovered searchable PDF feature. Epson should debug their installation disc and provide software that does what its ad says it will. While it's too early for me to tell, the scanner itself is probably fine. Until then, I need to set this scanner to 1, at least for Macintosh.
