I always cook for no more than one or two people and most recipes are for four to six servings so I usually cut recipes in half. When a recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of a liquid ingredient (common in Asian recipes!), it's difficult (and messy) to accurately measure 1.5 teaspoons. That's why I ordered the OXO 1/4 measuring cup. I am sure that I will use it often. As for its durability, this is a plastic measuring cup and like ALL my plastic cooking utensils, I will hand wash it instead of washing it in the dishwasher. Why? Because the dishwashing detergent is too harsh and will erode the marks over time, eventually pitting and scratching the plastic surface (making it look cloudy). With gentle cleaning (and handling; I don't expect it to withstand many accidental drops on my very hard ceramic tile kitchen floor), I expect this cute little mug to last quite a long time.
