To add to the chorus, this is just a fantastic upgrade of the 2005-2009 Outback. I just removed a set of (admittedly worn out) KYB stays from my 05 Outback 3.0R and replaced them with these 03-04 spec units and the difference is day and night. The rear of my car went from shaky and fuzzy to hard and planted in just over an hour's work. For do-it-yourselfers: after loosening the top two nuts (under the carpet in the car just behind the rear seats) and removing the nut from the bottom strut bolt, use a jack and a block of wood in the wheel well. Push the control arm/spindle down about 1/2 inch or so. This relieves the bottom screw enough for it to be easily removed. After that, the stand falls easily into your hand. These KYBs have a 6mm hex head on the shank end. Once you've securely compressed the spring, you can use a hex screwdriver on a ratchet or impact gun to turn the stem while holding the nut in place with a wrench. It couldn't be much easier. You might as well work on your stabilizer links and bushings while you're around.
