These lights get quite hot which is both a good and bad thing. I use them on my lizard so I'm just careful not to burn him or make him uncomfortable. Basically I wanted it to give off some UVA and some UVB, not heat, so that's fine. I turn it on twice a day for just a few hours and so far so good. In fact, I also noticed increased activity in my lizard, which is what I was hoping for with UVA. But a word of caution: be very careful about the outlet you are using. I just screwed it into the gooseneck of a floor lamp, which works great with other bulbs of the same wattage. However, it puts out a lot more heat and while everything seemed fine when I turned it off that day, the entire device was very hot. The next time I used it I felt like I had damaged both the bulb and the gooseneck so I found a higher wattage ammeter bulb and it did fine. I am not downplaying the floor lamp issue as I believe it was my fault.
