This is a heavy duty lock designed for outdoor use. If you're looking for a versatile lock for things like your gym locker, I recommend the Master Lock 178D instead. This lock is for things like sheds and gates. This lock has several features that you need if you want to buy one. First, it's twice the weight of the 178D. Second, it has a rubber valve that closes the numbers and protects them from the elements. Third, it has a feature that lets you dial numbers even if you can't see them. The numbers can't be dialed backwards from zero, so you can't rotate them all the way and then rotate the other way while counting the clicks. This can be handy when you need it, but very annoying when you don't. Overall, I'd love to return my purchase, but I've waited too long. It's too big to fit on my barn door latch (the 178D works great) so I'll just keep it until I find a use for it.
