Makes aligning cable railing holes easier

Installed cable railing on my two flights stairs (and landing) this weekend - this tool made the job of aligning and spacing all the holes in my PVC clad posts much easier and less error prone. Since putting in the cables is one of the last tasks of the stairs, any errors will either be costly to fix (replace post/cladding) or would be easily visible. I considered this a small cost to ensure the job was done right. Just measure up from the treads every 3.5" (code is 4" with deflection here in Florida) and put a mark - align the mark on the tool with your measured mark, clamp in place using a quick release clamp, and drill. Perfect every time. This is solid aluminum with steel drill guides - no plastic. The only possible concern is longevity, as the steel guides got chewed up a little inside from the drill - drilled 140 holes - but it didn't affect the appearance or accuracy of the drilled holes.

Pros
  • With four bits included, it offers great value for money
