Plugged into an ethernet switch, plugged into my Pixel 3 XL, the WiFi icon on my phone went out and was replaced with an ethernet icon <-->. The phone worked perfectly. This would only be a problem if you want to connect to WiFi and Ethernet at the same time. But great for my purposes! The speed test showed (as expected) a significant increase over WLAN. The phone's data activity panel also shows Ethernet usage in a separate panel. (See attached images) The phone was Build PQ1A.181205.006 Android 9. (This is an unlocked phone from Google store but not rooted).
