Bought a roll because it was on sale and decided to try it for a two tone project. The calibration cube and a few other tests were fine, but as I started making heavier prints for the project I started having serious problems with not enough extrusion in random places. I took several spot measurements of the filament diameter and they were all 1.70-1.80mm. So I knew it wasn't a problem. However, as you can see in the picture of the tube, there are several layers with a minimal presence of filament where a 4mm thick wall should have been. The tube mechanically failed about 1/3 of the way up where these major underextrusions occurred. After examining the break points, I saw random pieces of thread, then a solid line, then random pieces again, etc. I was able to separate these layers with minimal effort. Then I remembered that I had printed two calibration cubes with different brands of thread. . Exactly the same g-code, so they should be very similar in weight, right? Well, as you can see from the photos, it *wasn't* the case. Hatchbox PLA (black) weighed 5.47 grams and Overture PLA (red) weighed 3.92 grams. Almost 30% lighter! Unfortunately, this is not a very good value when the print fails due to structural problems due to insufficient extrusion due to the low density of this filament.
