This thing has such a strong magnet I could practically throw it against a wall and expect it to stick to a counter (don't do that, you'll damage the walls!). It's strong enough not to worry about it breaking (again, until you drop it!), and since you're using it to find nails instead of wood, you can be sure you'll find the middle. Hairpin line so you don't have to make marks on both sides. I called my brother after he arrived and told him about it and he laughed and said his thorn seeker broke last week so he just hung a rare earth magnet on a piece of string and basically made it himself : )
