I started knitting on the loom last week. I am 46 years old and have carpal tunnel syndrome on both wrists and have had to stop crocheting because of it. I wanted to keep making beautiful things, so I took it. It's very easy and my wrists DO NOT ache! The instructions that come with the looms are not easy to understand. I used YouTube tutorial videos to learn the basics. The machines themselves are plastic with grooves on the outside of the pins. The pegs are non-removable, which suits me perfectly. The edge of a pole is a little rough, causing the thread to get tangled. But with a little precision, I can get him off the hook. The cap, that I shared is my first loom knit. I had a little trouble getting the string right so the pom pom at the top was a fluke. Bonus? You can use yarn of different weights. The pattern recommends a medium size 4-6, which I used for the hat in the picture, but I'm working on another hat in light-colored yarn and it works well.
