I used to have a D-Link DI-713P 802.11b wireless router that worked really well and I got this one to get faster speeds and to have more firewall features (and low price). To get it working with my cable modem, I first had to do what others here have said (and damn I'm glad they reported it), which was to drop the WAN port speed from 100 to 10 Mbps . Then I wanted to use MAC address filtering, a really good security feature that I used with the old one. I also wanted to use WEP encryption as before. With both features enabled, I was unable to connect our wireless workstations at all. I wrote to D-Link tech support, they called me back very quickly, but they said that these two features and "increase packet congestion" and decrease signal strength, and recommended disabling encryption! I forgot to tell them I was about 2ft from the router at the time, so signal strength (or interference) shouldn't be an issue. I've also found that to connect a Mac OS X PowerBook I have to turn on SSID broadcasting again, again reducing security. With encryption and SSID broadcasting enabled but MAC address filtering disabled, it works with my PCs and Macs, but my Windows XP computer is reporting fluctuating signal strength (and I'm not very far off), which means I always get that little pop get . -up windows my connection dropped, now it's back on, now it's off again, etc. So while it works most of the time, I have less security, more hassle, and no noticeable speed improvement over my old D-Router -Link 802.11b. which will be reinstalled soon and this new one will be back to Revain.
