Fixed bulkhead door works great

I repaired a broken bulkhead torsion spring by installing this gas damper. The door now opens and closes easily. Before the repair, the door had no support and clapped when closed, and the door became heavy when opened. To prevent the gas shock absorber from cleaning the door partition, it had to be mounted on spacer blocks. The cushion blocks were 4" x 4" x 4" blocks that I cut out of 4x4s. In order to have full travel when the door opens and closes, I had to install in a very specific spot. I've tried in several Places to install before I installed in a place that would allow full opening and closing This mount location is the only place I've been able to get the full travel The door mounted bracket got as close as possible mounted on the bulkhead hinge (see detail photo). The spacer on the door is adjusted so it barely touches the bulkhead.I also rotated the throttle shock mount on the door so that the mount attached to the shock was as close to the door hinge as possible since the hole on the bracket that attaches to the shock is offset and not centered it works fine and the door has full travel from open to close I have a 22.5lb shock v Used because I measured the opening force with a fish scale attached to the edge of the door when I opened the door.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
