Poor design, form over function

I bought this to replace the nicely designed but not whistling Alessi that I've been using for years. Since my kitchen is open to the living room, I wanted a teapot with a nice design. Since I'm often in another room when the water is boiling, I need a whistle. This teapot is an example of poor design in both form and function. It comes with "directions". Do not wash in the dishwasher. Remove the whistle before pouring, but wait until the bursts of steam have stopped (you'll need an oven mitt for this, as the bird is hot and spicy). The blue plastic handle is too hot to touch without an oven mitt. The lid and whistle are difficult to remove. While trying to get the whistle out, I accidentally hit the paper bag with the coffee grounds twice, which caused the coffee grounds to be scattered all over the kitchen. A blue-grey pencil and maroon highlights are an ugly combination. They don't go with anything unless your kitchen has a blue and burgundy color scheme. Oh, one more thing. The whistle is so quiet that you can't hear it in the next room. This kettle cost over $100. It's more trouble than good at any cost.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Damaged
