Does what I need but silly design and too early to judge quality

10/28.Edit.like others have stated that they started to fail for no reason. No fire, but both exploded right after my surgery. In short, I need a fire alarm that is wired but also has a wireless connection. It's too early to judge them on quality, but the way the device is constructed is the source of my approval. If you look at the back of the unit you'll see a huge bulge in the center (whereas the original Kidde was flat) and wires attached to the side that should go into the rear box. If there are too many cables in the back box, they won't all fit in, so you need to buy and install a larger back box. In addition, the mounting ring is much cheaper and very difficult to mount on the ceiling. Long story. I live in a townhouse with an HOA and the "government" decides to audit for fire code compliance, but no one knows the actual code. They state that fire alarms should be both wired and interconnected (all go off at the same time). So when they tested it, my connection either failed or wasn't there when the device was built. So either get a radio link or call an electrician and check the wiring. I took the cheaper route. They serve a purpose, but it's probably best to have an electrician check the wiring. They offer a 10-year battery

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • The packaging is ugly
