Read the instructions.

I have to follow the instructions, not what you think, but what they really say. Setting up a wireless connection is super easy if you follow the instructions. take them all away Turn them on (knob all the way down) and on ONLY ONE of them, press the center button until you hear two beeps. Each of the currently activated OTHERS reports "Success, now connected". Then press and hold ONE key that you originally pressed for another 5 seconds or two beeps and it will say "Installation Complete". NOW

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not everything fits

They work great if you follow the installation instructions.

I have 11 of these devices, wired and battery powered. I started installing in 2017. Sometimes my batteries fail. Kidde provided excellent customer service and replaced any defective unit. One thing to keep in mind when setting up is to use a central detector as the "master". Then use it to connect to any other 4010 Series wireless detector. Failure to do this will result in connection problems. Otherwise they work as advertised. A color-coded LED shows you which device is the initiator. One…

Smoke and Fire Alarm Troubleshooting

Installing this product was SUPER EASY! However, within the first week, one of the units began to howl. That wasn't a normal announcement. It was a constant screech and he refused to shut up. The only way to stop it was to disable it. Next I have one that initiates others by saying that when there is none, there is fire. If you try to drown it out, it says too much smoke, but no smoke or fire. In the event of a fault, it flashes yellow and red. Then there's another one that fires randomly at…

Does what I need but silly design and too early to judge quality

10/28.Edit.like others have stated that they started to fail for no reason. No fire, but both exploded right after my surgery. In short, I need a fire alarm that is wired but also has a wireless connection. It's too early to judge them on quality, but the way the device is constructed is the source of my approval. If you look at the back of the unit you'll see a huge bulge in the center (whereas the original Kidde was flat) and wires attached to the side that should go into the rear box. If…

Nice little things are easy to use, wiring can be overloaded

Back in 2015 I replaced all smoke detectors and combos with Kidde/Firex models. Smoke only detectors were fine, but combined detectors often caused false alarms. Worse, if one worked I had to walk around the house looking for one of the alarms (we have 11 of them!) with flashing lights to see which one had signaled. After the last false alarm at 3am I decided to replace them all with 4010 series detectors. Best of all, when they all sound, you press the mute button on one and they mute all but…
