Review on 🎢 Enhance Your Audio Experience with Music Hall Acri-Plat Acrylic Platter by Marcus Dorgham

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Improves the appearance and performance of the player. Worth an update.

Greatly improves the look of Pro-Ject or Music Hall turntables and also provides a better resonance-free platter base than the compatible original metal platters that come with Debut or Music Hall platters. I'm not sure if there's a huge weight difference between the OEM metal and acrylic tops as I haven't actually weighed them, but I'm guessing the metal top is a bit heavier. However, metal panels tend to ring and transmit vibration while acrylic panels don't, so there are some design improvements here. I notice no difference in audible wah and flutter on either record, and there is a subtle but still audible improvement in tonal character. There seems to be plenty of bass and treble articulation, but that's debatable and subjective and may just be a placebo effect. Doesn't affect sound quality as much as a cartridge or stylus upgrade (which I would still recommend as a first upgrade). I still prefer a cork mat and an acrylic disk clip (sometimes no clip). This is my preference, you may or may not use a mat or clip to suit your personal taste. It's not mandatory. But I find that the mat/clip reduces the likelihood of the record slipping, as opposed to the acrylic surface alone. Acrylic bowl Hall Acri-Plat. I have both and as far as I can tell (and I've looked VERY closely) they are identical and functionally interchangeable. I don't see any difference in size, weight, build, appearance, folds, creases, marks etc other than the label on the box and it doesn't make much of a difference either. Even the plastic bag it is wrapped in is the same size! If anyone can actually challenge this, you're welcome to do so. Otherwise, suppose they are identical twins!

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Expensive Insurance

Flat and neutral. Just as it should be.
