Review on Makita VC4210L Gallon Filter Extractor by Jeff Kersey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nobody warned me about explosions

When you spend $600 on a quiet vacuum you don't want it to make a loud noise every 17 seconds, but this vacuum does exactly that. Apparently they had problems with clogged filters, so a brilliant engineer designed a magnetic coil that hit the fuselage hard twice every 17 seconds. When I started I thought something had come loose. I am very disappointed in Makita. I bought it because of the Makita name and didn't expect it to be a Hungarian made rebathed Nilfisk. The documentation was terribly bad. It consists of a few pages of incomprehensible pictures and a thought book of practically useless text translated into every language known to man. Aside from the explosions, the vacuum seemed pretty good. To me it sounded louder than 60db but it was much quieter than my shop vacuum and I have one of the quietest rigid vacuums around. I find explosions so annoying that I am returning this item.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
