Why oh why have I never bought a soldering hook? Why? I have been soldering electronics for over three decades and have always used a damp sponge. Never again! It's so nice to scrape the solder off the tip of the iron without changing the temperature. It actually cleans the tip better, since a damp sponge will always cover the tip during cleaning, and a small amount of flux is sometimes required to get smooth solder joints back. Not with that.
