Review on Sangean ANT 100 External Antenna by Hugo Caywood

There have been several reviews on this product stating that the wire on this product often detaches from the base causing the device emerges completely useless. I bought this item anyway, partly because of the Sangean brand and partly because I figured if this was a known issue with the product they would definitely fix it. I can tell you that numerous reviews out there claim that the cable is exactly what separates from the base. When my ANT-100 arrived it turned out to be whole and new. Upon unpacking, a white substance was found on the base of the antenna at the junction of the cable with the antenna itself. I assumed that Sangean added some kind of glue here or somehow tried to reinforce the element due to problems with frequent wire disconnection. We bought the ANT-100 in mid-June. The antenna was not used immediately as it would change offices. I moved to a new office in mid-July and brought my new Sangean and ANT-100 radio into the office to use. When I connected the antenna, the cable literally just fell out without tugging or tugging. When connecting to the radio, it just fell out by itself. The next day I went to Revain to try to return the ANT-100 but I was no longer within the 30 day return period for this item. I still intend to return the item for a partial refund but it is important for others to know this is a poorly designed item and WILL NOT BE RECEIVED. The workmanship of this item is incredibly poor and Sangean appears to have done nothing to fix the known issue of the cable detaching from the base of this item. Some of you will be reading this and still considering buying an ANT-100 like I did. This will be a mistake and you will be disappointed. You should change your mind. Sangean needs to take this product off the market and fix its design flaws and poor manufacturing. Revain should review and consider discontinuing this product. ************ Updated 8/12/13. Although I was unable to return the item through Revain, I contacted Sangean and they sent a new antenna. I spoke to a member of staff who admitted they had a problem with this item and sent me a replacement without asking me to send them the old defective item. I have to admit that Sangean took care of this issue and their representative dealt with me very professionally. It's hard to complain about that. When you do business with a company, you want it to be a company like Sangean that cares about the customer. Because they took care of the issue, I'm giving them three stars instead of the one star I originally rated. However, I advise caution when purchasing this product. It is poorly built and not of the quality you should expect from a Sangean. I highly recommend Sangean Radios. I do not necessarily recommend this item. If you purchase this item, please inspect it carefully and process all returns promptly. I would recommend that you reinforce the area where the cable enters the base with epoxy or glue to add some strength. And don't be surprised if the item fails in this area, despite your best efforts to strengthen it.
