Review on Rosonway 5 In 1 USB C Hub With 3 USB 3.2 10Gbps Data Ports, SD/TF Card Readers, 2Ft Cable And Individual Switches, For PC, Laptops, M1 Mac Mini, IMac, MacBook Pro/Air, RSH-A104D by Kyle Rose

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Gen 2 speeds with read and write to both card slots at the same time

This Rosonway 5-in-1 hub is a compact way to expand the ports of your computer with a fairly affordable price. The hub is compact and very simple. The hub is permanently attached to a USB type C cord that is about a foot and a half long. There are 3 USB type A ports on the top of the hub and a full sized SD card slot and microSD card at the end. On the side of the hub are three physical buttons that turn the three USB type A slots on or off. There is a tiny blue LED below each USB type A slot that indicates if the slot is on or not. To turn on the slot you just tap the corresponding button. To turn off a slot you hold a button down for 2-3 seconds. The only bummer here is that the blue LED is very tiny and you have to be looking straight down at it to determine if it is on or off.The hub is a USB 3 gen 2 hub, so it should be capable of 10 Gbps compared to USB 3 gen 1 speeds which are 5 Gbps. I'm sure it supports those faster speeds, however, I wasn't able to truly test it out because I don't have USB type A devices that support 10 Gbps. That's fairly rare. Those speeds are usually reserved for USB type C devices. But I was still able to achieve good max speeds with my USB type A flash drives. The card readers are ok, but not super fast. I have a full size SD card that is supposed to go up to 135 Mbps (read) and I was only getting numbers a little over 100 Mbps. I don't know if that was because of the card, the hub, or the files (video clips and photos) that I was moving. Write speeds were less than 100 Mbps. Still, those are fairly acceptable numbers considering most SD cards are practically in the 80s Mbps when it comes to read and write speeds. The good thing to note is that you can read and write to both the microSD slot and full size SD slot at the same time. That is not a common feature in USB hubs, so I was excited to see that functionality in this hub.The top of the hub will also accept a negative center pin 5V/2A electrical source to power downstream devices. USB sticks and SD cards work just fine without the extra power, but if you want to plug in something like a USB DVD writer, you'll need the extra power. In my package I did not receive the extra AC power adapter, and I kinda wish I had it. If you like this hub you might want to spend a few more dollars to get that power supply.Overall, this is a good compact hub if you want to convert a USB-C port on your laptop into a dual card reader with 3 USB type A slots, just don't expect to take advantage of those Gen 2 speeds with that many USB type A devices.

Pros
  • Works as described
Cons
  • It's not dependable. I exchanged it, and I am past my return period. The 2nd one was better.
