My son started walking when I lived in an open plan mobile home. Keeping the kitchen safe from children was impossible, and at 16 feet wide, finding a gate that went through the entire house and separated the living room from the kitchen was a problem. Nothing sold at Walmart, Toys R Us, Target or anywhere else would work - they just weren't wide enough. It worked perfectly for us. It fits perfectly into the space and completely separates the kitchen from the living room. It has a door which was fantastic so we didn't have to go up and over the gate every time we wanted to get from the living room to the kitchen and back. The gate lock worked well and my son was never able to escape. We used it all the time we lived in this house until we moved to another house that had a separate kitchen and normal child gates worked fine. Baby gates just don't fit. The mounts were easy to install and my husband had them fully installed in less than an hour. My son liked his "freedom" and I liked not having to worry about him getting into things he shouldn't get into. It was easy enough for the child to protect the living room and his room, and he could hobble freely in these two rooms. We have used regular baby gates for other rooms in the hallway and this large one in the main living room of the house. It threw away the decor but it saved my baby and that's all that matters!
