The good, the bad, and the ugly

The good: I got this device last week, it works great, I don't need bluetooth or traffic, I need a GPS that calculates routes fast, and this device does it it very good. It's very easy to use and gives great advice on next turns etc. The Bad: When I first got it the calculated route between my home and work was perfect, I have 16 miles to work and I wanted that test device and familiarize myself with it before my upcoming vacation in Arizona. After a software update from Garmin's website, the device now decides to take me on a long, circular route that takes me to the side for miles, a route no one in their right mind would take. Even after the device has passed a point where it is forced to recalculate and figure out that the best route would be the most direct, it will still insist on getting you out of the way to rejoin the original route . This is a serious problem as it can take you to places you don't want to go in unfamiliar territory. This is not a problem for this route because I know the best way. For those familiar with my area, I live in Mission Viejo and work very near the intersection of 5 and 55. Instead of taking the most direct route onto the 5, the squad insists that I take 405 and then 55 . Even after I pass the intersection of 5 and 405 and on to 5, the squad says and wants to take me to Alton Parkway so I can get back on the 405. Ugly: I now have to deal with Garmin customer service which has a terrible reputation. I will post a sequel.
