Review on Polaris Scientific Ultraviolet System Ballast by Caleb Quade

Ballast set EB-0624. Security issue - not recommended.

This is a review of the unit and not my experience with this manufacturer. My existing EB-0624 ballast failed on an old Polaris UV-1C unit. However, they don't appear to be making or selling the EB-0624 units anymore. EB-1024 does not go well with the UV-1C unit. It's like putting a black cover over where the lamp is and praying you don't pull it all the way out. The cover does not fit properly and therefore does not prevent the lamp from slipping out. If you break the ballast wire, the glowing lamp will come out of the block. This is a safety issue for both a broken lightbulb and seeing a burning UV lamp. I consider this new design to be a safety hazard and do not recommend Ballast. I don't know if the new Polaris UVA-1C blocks have a better design to hold the black cover better, but I suspect not like the old EB-0624 which had the plug screwed into the block so it could couldn't slip out.

Pros
  • Ballast for old model UV-1C, UV-2C and UV-4C Polaris Ultraviolet UV Systems
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen
