This is an exact OEM style replacement part for the left (driver) side of VW Vanagons. It seems well made and it's cheaper here than at the dealer. This article's photo shows it in the correct position, sized vertically instead of horizontally. The mounting bracket attaches to the door with two Phillips screws. The rubber/plastic gasket that runs between the mirror mount and the metal of the door is not included. If necessary, they can be purchased from VW dealers. There is a tension adjustment nut under the mounting bracket. I had to increase the tension on mine to keep it from being blown away by the wind at highway speeds.
