I bought two of these little treat balls for my chickens to keep them busy during the winter. I really like the design which consists of two half domes held together with a thick elastic thread in the middle. To use, simply spread the ball in half, scoop up some scratches and the elastic band will help keep the ball closed. The chickens will then kick or peck at it and a small scratch will fall from either end as shown in the picture. The reason for only 3 stars instead of 5 is because my hens realized that if they stepped on the thing the ball would collapse in on itself, exposing and dissolving the entire scratch at once. This infuriates me because the whole point is to keep the chickens busy for more than 5 minutes. I think that's a good idea, but the design is flawed because there is no locking mechanism along the seam. It is simply held together with a rubber band. I think if your chickens are shy and don't chase this thing aggressively, this is a good toy.
