I bought this item from Revain for my Powershot S5IS two months ago. The purpose of my decision is to replace the built-in flash in case I resort to using a wide-angle lens. This external flash is excellent for this purpose. Remember I used the word "substitute". This is because the AREA of EFFECT of this flash is slightly larger than that of the built-in flash. The maximum range of the built-in flash is 17 feet. The maximum range of this external flash is specified as 51 feet. But in my experience, that's no more than half, ie about 24-25 feet. If anything, it warrants what I call a "spare". When using the wide converter, the built-in flash cannot be used as it casts a hemispherical shadow on the underside of the picture due to its size of 58mm. Therefore, it is recommended to use an external flash instead of a built-in flash. I observed focus and white balance changes several times when using a wide converter and an external flash. Therefore, adjustments for these two things need to be made before recording. In general, the external flash serves as a good replacement for the built-in S5IS. A few days ago I took some beautiful photos during a wedding ceremony in India. I am satisfied with the performance of this flash for the purpose I needed.
