Review on πŸ“„ ADS-2200 Brother High-Speed Desktop Document Scanner with Duplex Scanning and Multiple Scan Destinations by Paul Giordano

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poorly supported on Linux; Controls are unclear

I have used several different Brother machines in the past, both computer and sewing machines, and so far all to my complete satisfaction. In fact, I can't talk to this machine's runtime utility yet, as I've just (finally) gotten it to work. These difficulties are the reason for my rating, which is far from the best. The scanner came with a power supply and cable, but not (as mentioned) with a matching USB cable; Luckily I have a couple of USB cables and one of them was the right configuration. And while it included a quick setup guide, it didn't include a user guide in any form, paper or CD, and it didn't even mention where to find the online user guide. (Google "Brother ADS 2200 User's Guide" to find it.) Another problem that required searching the web was finding the appropriate device driver for Linux. Given some search engine features, this wasn't that difficult, but it would be nice if this information was available in the package. The software was an obscure button (white on white) that tells the scanner to "scan to computer" (or some other "scan to USB drive" button). The icon on the Scan to Computer button is a diamond with a vertical bar in the middle - not an obvious clue to me. Having survived this disappointment I am definitely looking forward to using the scanner and updating this review. .
