Review on Genie Model GIRUD-1T Alleviates Frequency Interference In Garage Door Opener Remotes Upgrades Most Major Brands To Intellicode Security, Black by Daniel Pierce

Works well, pretty easy to install

I kind of backed into this purchase in an odd way, because I just wanted to buy a keypad for outside of the garage, and I thought I'd be able to get a wireless one that you program by simply pointing the garage remote at it, like I do with the built in one in my car (HomeLInk system). Well, the keypad I bought has 'intellicode', not 'HomeLink', so it didn't work at all. They don't make HomeLink keypads, and generally the old style of garage signals is not very secure. The intellicode system is basically letting the garage sensor be the master, and it learns codes from the devices you connect to it, whereas the HomeLink system just lets your car 'copy' the signal your garage remote sends (showing just how easy it is to copy them). So at this point I own a keypad that won't work, and I'm now more aware of just how insecure my whole garage setup is, so I found this conversion kit, and verified that it would work with the HomeLink system in my Honda Odyssey. The final installation was easy, if you just look at how the wires are hooked up, but it was a little bit of a challenge for me to figure it all out, because the existing wiring of the sensor I had already had power coming in, so I didn't need to use the transformer and wall plug. Once I went through some trial and error on the right connections, and confirmed that the existing wired wall button still worked, programming the new remote, HomeLink in the car, and the new wireless Keypad was pretty easy. I had read that some people were not happy with the signal performance, so I placed the sensor as close to the front of the garage as I could (it was so close that I realized I could have gone with a wired

My garage door opener is old and figured i could save some money, but couldn’t sync my Audi. I guess i will have to replace the whole unit. Other than the sync issue, installation was easy and worked great with the included remote.
