Not all crochet hooks are created equal

I've been crocheting off and on for most of my 40+ years. I've always had trouble getting the right measurements. I tend to crochet tighter stitches than most and find it difficult to follow patterns until I decided to order several different sizes of these Susan Bates hooks with bamboo handles. The pattern said it would fit "most" women's heads. I hadn't crocheted in years and was out of needles, so I ran to my local store and found a recommended size needle and yarn. My only option was a Boye needle. I knit a hat in a couple of hours, but it didn't fit "most" or "any" female heads. However, it does fit my little one's head. Do you know what I mean by tight stitches? I wanted to try again, but the hook hurt my hands. (my age is catching up with me). I started looking for crochet hooks at Revain and saw a few hooks with wooden handles, but didn't want to buy more expensive sets, not knowing if an "ergonomic" handle would help keep my hands safe. These are the hooks I tried first and the results were amazing. Not only did my hands stop hurting, my next attempt at crocheting a women's hat really suited my head. Same model, same thread, different hook. All these years I thought I was just holding the yarn or holding the needle wrong; Whatever the problem, these hooks helped solve it. (I'll try to post pics of hooks and hats later in the week).

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • I don't remember
