My first few cups were terrible until I settled on the recipe. Now my coffee is some of the best I've ever had (because I make it exactly how I want it). I told you all this so you know this isn't Keurig - you're going to work for your coffee. and I don't regret it. I like Chemex more than other alternatives that rely on a metal (or worse, plastic) filter housing. No matter how many times I clean them, they eventually stop leaking coffee at the correct rate, resulting in bitter, over-extracted coffee. Instead, Chemex uses carefully designed paper filters and nothing else. A little stirring hot water will clean the bottom of the Chimex sufficiently. There are other similar alternatives out there like the V60 which sure makes great coffee too. I wouldn't choose between the two. Just remember glass and filter and nothing else! Enjoy.
