This is the thinnest glass you can imagine.

No point in buying this. Essentially, you are buying an extremely thin glass tumbler. The glass is so thin I was afraid to even put it on the counter. It looked like it would break any second. Plus it was over $40! This is a big robbery. You can buy a thick and durable glass anywhere for $5-10. To top it off, this "coffee brewing system" requires paper filters, and none are included! So how do I make coffee out of this $40 piece of glass? At this price it should come with filters for 3 years…

The fate of your coffee is up to you

My first few cups were terrible until I settled on the recipe. Now my coffee is some of the best I've ever had (because I make it exactly how I want it). I told you all this so you know this isn't Keurig - you're going to work for your coffee. and I don't regret it. I like Chemex more than other alternatives that rely on a metal (or worse, plastic) filter housing. No matter how many times I clean them, they eventually stop leaking coffee at the correct rate, resulting in bitter, over-extracted…

GO-TO-STANDARD: Pour Over coffee makers

I love Chemex coffee makers - I've had several over the years and recently returned - not sure why I stopped using them use. I've just bought 6 mugs with handles - a little easier to pour in old age with sore hands. Of course, "cup" means 5 ounces, not 8. I took the collar off my old one and put it on this one because I like the look. This is a little tricky as you have to untie one end of the leather cord and pull it out of the bead so it goes through the handle, thread it back through the…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Almost everything is included

Make a great cup of coffee

I enjoy my Chemex. I used Keurig and it was fast but not the best coffee I've tried. I decided to learn more about coffee and got interested in what I read about Chemex. There is definitely a learning curve in using it. I would suggest looking at the available videos on how to use Chemex. There is also an app that I use to determine watering times, it's called KoHi. You can customize the size of the cup you are brewing. I kept a little diary and rated how much I like coffee. I reduced it to 283

New filters suck! Replacing the coffee maker above it.

We love Chemex. I'd like to give the coffee carafe 5 stars and 0 stars for the horrible new moon filters that the company is trying to force on its users! Chemex has been the number one choice for brewing quality coffee beans for years. I met her when I was working as a barista at a San Diego coffee shop in the 90's. We had to take coffee tasting classes and Chemex gave us maximum control over the brewing process. However, the new crescent-shaped filters that the company is trying to force us…

quality control? Okay for about a year.

I LOVE this little CHEMEX. but . I suspect it's a quality control issue. I've had two of these smaller ones in just over 24 months. (Chemex replaced the first) My first (and only) Chemex was bought in 1971. I recently gave it to my son-in-law who was delighted. Almost 50 years old, numerous moves, several new wooden collars. It doesn't have a chip and still makes great coffee. To say I have experience with this product is an understatement. As I am very old and there is only one coffee drinker…

Pros
  • CHEMEX Pour-over allows coffee to be covered and chilled to be reheated without sacrificing flavor
Cons
  • boring packaging

First time using Chemex - so far so good

I moved to a new apartment and needed a new coffee maker and I needed a night I came across Chemex while researching. I'd never heard of it before, but I liked the idea of not having a clunky machine on my already cluttered desk. I argued about getting 6 cups or 8 cups but ended up with 6 cups. Most of the time I drink it, but sometimes my daughter drinks coffee too. I also have a gooseneck kettle and a coffee filter. I've only used it a few times but so far I'm really enjoying it. Love that…

  • Use filters with CHEMEX FP-1, FC-100, FS-100, FSU-100 Bundle

Nice and simple with one small flaw

Chemex makes it easy (and almost reliable) to brew a great cup of coffee. If you're just starting out with hand brewing coffee at home, I'd say this is for you. For those days when you just don't want to experiment with other methods, don't have enough time, or just want a quick no-frills coffee, or need to make a lot of coffee at once, Chemex is the winner. If you're taking the plunge, I recommend purchasing a Chemex that has a 6+ cup capacity and possibly no glass handle. The 6 cup chemex…
