Good product, install VLC app to support it.

Packaging and materials are all very good. Please note that this device is a 2-wire device in case this is not clear. 1. USB3/USB-C connector (either one or the other), 2. separate USB power cord. Power comes from individual USB.4 stars because I had to do a little work to get it to play and here's why: Initially I had trouble playing the DVD. Initially I thought the USB slot I used for power was not suitable. Turns out these were the DVD apps I used. I ended up with a free VLC video player. Not very impressive, but works fine so far, at least for DVD. I haven't had a chance to test the Blu-ray yet. Two other applications I've tried before caused the disc to pulse, hiss, and vibrate. You could hear the head vibrating or groping constantly, as if trying to read the same small section of the DVD over and over again. I almost put it back thinking it was defective. It definitely seemed to be a hardware issue as the apps loaded and the DVD played but then restarted and the display in the app froze. It just turned out to be incompatible with the previous two applications I tried to use to play the DVD. I followed the PCWorld article How to play DVD for free on Windows 10. They recommended getting the VLC desktop app, NOT the Windows Store version. This one worked for me.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
