Seems to work well but I have some concerns

The old deadbolt on our front door is finally working died and I wanted to replace it with an electronic lock. I've always been a fan of just re-keying Kwikset locks, so this was a natural choice. === Good material ===* The lock has a nice, professional look and shine. The buttons are backlit by a green LED (tip: you have to press the lock button to turn the light on), and it's actually easier to use than fiddling with a key. and with the key outside. Like most Kwikset locks, you can easily recode the lock to match your existing key.* This lock was installed about four months ago and has worked perfectly since === Not good ===* The lock didn't come with a bar. This is the type that is just a round cylinder and no strike plate. After waiting half an hour on the phone, Kwikset mailed it free of charge, although it took two attempts to send the correct one. This added a week to the project delay.* Installation was a lot easier than I thought. When I first installed the lock there seemed to be a "problem". Just turning the mechanical part of the lock seemed very rude and "clumsy". I thought it was installed incorrectly and spent half a day trying to get smooth mechanical operation. It turned out to be the way it was supposed to be, and once the motor was installed everything worked fine.* If you look closely at the sides of the internal mechanism, you can see two small set screws. They hold the motor and battery assembly and also allow you to reach the buttons that allow you to program the device. Unfortunately, one of those screw holes was ripped off when I received the lock. I just decided to live with it as it took a week to install the lock, but I'm sure I'll regret it. It's a ridiculous problem with a $100 padlock. === Summary === After difficulties with the installation, the lock worked perfectly. But with the "deaf" mechanism and the missing screw, I don't have high hopes for long-term reliable operation.

Pros

Cons
  • Not bad but...
