It couldn't manage even 1 external hard drive even if nothing else was connected. It took several restarts of my computer for all components to be recognized, but not all are recognized on every restart. I disabled it and put it in the parts cart in case I ever need a single device extension. Don't count on using all 4 ports at the same time, it just won't handle the load. I was told that plugging in the AC adapter would fix the problem, but I try not to throw good money after bad money, so I didn't order an AC adapter. This might fix the problem, but be aware that if you're using hard drives, you'll need an adapter. You can find other hubs with power adapters for less than the combined cost of this hub and its power adapter.
