As a novice woodworker, I'm new to pocket-hole gauges, but the Kreg's price tag (about $99) put me off. . This one basically does the job, but I have no idea how long it will take. Case: 1. A lot of metal shavings came out during the first drilling, indicating that the tolerances between the drill and the guide are quite tight and possibly too large.2. After 5-10 holes, the drill warped, so now it doesn't correspond to reality. Not enough to render it useless, but the bit is clearly not up to the task and probably won't stand up to my current project (I have about 100 holes to drill and I've done less than half so far). Pros: * It's cheap. * It is strong enough except for the drill. * It seems to be doing its job, at least in the near future. * It fits pretty well for drilling 4x4 or other > 2x4 supplies I need. do.Cons: * The chisel is too light and deforms. It should have been made of better quality steel. I have to order another one to make sure I can handle this project. Side use requires more (adhesive) clamps to prevent slipping.* The mounting clamp is also very narrow, making it difficult to drill holes across the width of the panel (compared to the ends). I had to find a way to support the ends of the boards so they were level. A few inches of bracket width would probably have avoided this. t is fully seated in the jig. Check each time that the board is fully seated. Finally, the "lawyer quality" issue and not the "quality of the product" issue has to do with the stupid safety sticker they put on the racket's handle that can't be removed except with goof- Off or nail polish remover, which ironically creates its own security issue. idiots.
