I purchased this heavy duty, heavy duty polishing pad to polish a matte shot peened stainless steel gun barrel. I said rigid because it's a very stiff and hard wheel. The denim material is highly compressed and the tight, tight seam maintains stiffness and integrity. I also wanted to be specific and sensitive where I was applying pressure to the track grooves so a large flexible buff would not be appropriate for the initial buffing phase. This balance bike is perfect for my needs. As you can see from the picture the denim has some wear on the outside but the threads sticking out were mainly due to a broken wheel on a very hard stainless steel surface with sharp jagged edges that I didn't want to wash. Softer buffs followed, and the result speaks for itself. I put my thumb on the steering wheel and recommend it to others.
