Review on πŸ”§ Precision Spoke Tension Measurement with the Park Tool TM-1: A Must-Have Tool for Bike Maintenance by Michael Boyce

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Handy tool BUT in the sport

I found out about this tool at my local bike shop and got it when I started making my own wheels. I use it a lot and am more confident that everything will be right the first time. BUT already with the first bike I noticed that the readings are going to be unique. I have attributed this to friction in the ball bearing, pointer slide and possible palm contact when releasing. After one wheel, he could no longer smoothly return to zero. I had to put some grease on the pivot bushing and a dry wax based lubricant on the pointer pusher to restore it to its original condition. I noticed that the brushed aluminum finish isn't the best for low friction on the pointer pusher. Park Tool is usually very thoughtful in their designs, but they got it a little wrong here.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Long delivery time
