works but the design could be better

I don't know how accurate the readings are because I don't have a good quality gauge to reference. However, it works great for pulling the spokes against each other. Where the dial is in contact with the aluminum plate there is resistance. If I lubricate the area where it rubs, my tension is much less than if I use it as is. So don't trust the numbers, just try to get an acceptably high spoke tension, and then use that to ensure there is enough tension for each side of the wheel. Also, the wayโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

It's a useful tool, but the prices aren't competitive!

It is difficult to recommend a fake domestic blue original instrument. However, as the competition increased, the price of the product increased by 20-40 dollars, and the quality of the tool itself did not impress me. It looked new, but the reading required more verification to get a correct reading of the same spoke than an incorrect one. If it was the other way around and you paid an extra $45-$60 it might have been worth it. Just think of the time it takes to check 1-4 readings instead of 20

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

  • Almost everything ok

Handy tool BUT in the sport

I found out about this tool at my local bike shop and got it when I started making my own wheels. I use it a lot and am more confident that everything will be right the first time. BUT already with the first bike I noticed that the readings are going to be unique. I have attributed this to friction in the ball bearing, pointer slide and possible palm contact when releasing. After one wheel, he could no longer smoothly return to zero. I had to put some grease on the pivot bushing and a dry waxโ€ฆ

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Long delivery time

I am an obsessive wheel builder. I'm not a wheeled harp. (Tension detection with plucked tone and intuition.) So, along with Park, I also have the Wheel Fanatyk Mitutoyo, which is an amazingly amazing tool and, they say, the most accurate gauge in the world. For this review: When both tools were properly calibrated, I got nearly identical voltage readings for both tools. That's impressive considering the park is $320 LESS than the competition in this case. And the fall of the park during itsโ€ฆ

A good addition to any store

I received the Park Tool TM-1 tension meter, read the instructions and started using it straight away. I had an issue with a Mavic XC717 rim that I tested a couple of times, but after about 3000 miles the rim started cracking at the base of the nipples. Thinking I was over-tightening, I asked questions and got informed suggestions from other Revain customers who had considered the Park Tension Gauge, so I bought it. After checking the tension on the cracked Mavic rim, I found that it was tooโ€ฆ

  • Very good value for money

  • Ugly packaging

Great tool for tuning bike wheels, highly recommend

I went to a mountain bike park recently. These parkas, while fun, are pretty brutal on your bike. My recent experience left me with a broken rear wheel. It was broken in the sense that you could hear all sorts of rattling noises coming from the steering wheel while driving. I tried tightening any loose spokes while at the park, but in the end it was time for another solution. I didn't have money for a new wheel and the last time I took my wheel to the shop I wasn't happy with the results. Mostโ€ฆ
