Review on πŸ“· Ultra HD 12 LED Night Vision Waterproof Car Backup Camera - 140Β° Wide View for Universal Cars, SUVs, Trucks, RVs, and More (HD) by Saul Rivera

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lights stay on all the time when powered by controller

[UPDATE March 23, 2020] I'm changing my rating of this camera to 5 stars because it clearly needs bulbs, which I said what I drilled into my previous review. I don't know how they did it, but this camera does an excellent job of gathering ambient light to show your surroundings when secured. It is far superior to the 8 year old camera I had to replace. Also, I was contacted "cold" by the seller to let him know that he has seen reviews from those of us who are frustrated with not being able to turn off the light. And they said that a new version of the camera will be released soon with a brown cable that can be cut to turn off the light. I am leaving my original review below for interested people to read how to turn off the light with a drill. Again, I now think this is an excellent camera and am looking forward to a new one with a brown wire to turn off the light. Great customer service too! [Original Review] As some others have noted, when you turn on this camera by connecting it directly to the head unit, the LED lights turn on (and stay on) when the car is moving. As it stands, this is an all-or-nothing deal. When the camera has power, the light also has power. It's far from ideal for those of us who want to access the camera while driving. For example, I like to turn on the camera when I'm dragging my pendant to make sure everything is in order and nothing is dangling or dangling. It seems that the only way to not have the lights on all the time is to "plug in" the power from the reverse lights. But that would then mean that I couldn't see the camera either, except when I was reversing. I suspect I really need a product that uses separate power supplies for the LEDs and the camera. . Perhaps the LED lights could be wired separately to the reversing lights while the camera is powered by the main unit? I'm not sure if anyone actually makes a camera with lights that are powered from a separate source, but judging by some of the other reviews I've read here it looks like there is one for this market could exist. Anyway, I just followed the advice. Another reviewer and I drilled 4 corner LEDs and sealed them with waterproof gorilla glue. Otherwise, the image of this camera is pretty good. I just wish I had reverse lights only when reversing.
