This grinding wheel holder is good for hand grinding in areas where a full size electric or pneumatic grinder cannot be used. The sanding discs stay in place well and provide a smooth, even surface on which to achieve lighter or heavier sanding marks simply by holding the sandpaper in your hand. I've found them particularly useful on chair legs with both high and low spots, as you can mask the edges with sanding discs to get into hard-to-reach places like grooves in woodwork. It worked very well for what I used it for.
