Review on Weather Guard 644001 All Purpose Aluminum by Keith Wachtel

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Thick aluminum, poor workmanship.

I bought this box after hearing complaints about "thin aluminum" found in cheaper boxes. I wanted a box that is better made and lasts longer. This box filled that need. The box is made of thicker aluminum and despite dents, folds and tears, the shipping box showed no external damage. The reason I'm giving this three stars is because of the quality of the box's workmanship. When I received my box, the steel pin that folds the release mechanism lost its retaining ring and came out. This caused pieces of the mechanism to come loose and scatter all over the inside of the box. Luckily I'm mechanically inclined and was able to put it back together, except for one detail I can't figure out for the life of my life (the box snaps, releases, and locks/unlocks). It could only be because the installer didn't fully seat the locking ring onto the pin. Also, the front cover of the mechanism had to have a self-tapping screw at the top and bottom, there was only one at the top, and the cover was crooked. Also the welds on the box are not very professional. There is quite a lot of slag and the welds look sloppy. For the price of this box (2-3 times more than the competition) I expected a higher quality of work. Bottom line, this is probably one of the best boxes out there in terms of materials, just don't expect too much from the finish.
