Cheap lithium battery charger

These devices are clearly intended for DIY enthusiasts as they do not come with instructions. I use them to charge lithium batteries and they work well for that purpose. Combined with the computer power supply that many people already have, this device can easily output several hundred watts (12V/25A). Things get a little more interesting when you daisy chain multiple power supplies to get 24V+ as that gives you more power. It is possible to find used server power supplies that are compact and efficient for a very low price ($20 each or less). To do this, you must "earth" the power supply so that the negative pole is not connected to ground. There are videos on YouTube that explain this in more detail. To sum up, with this CC/CV boost controller and 2 DIY serial server power supplies, you can get a 700W charger for about $60. I have read that pot settings can change over time. . While I haven't experienced it personally, perhaps because mine are used in a stationary environment, it's a good idea to regularly check the voltage and current settings to make sure they're correct. If used to charge a battery, the BMS is also likely to protect against surges. Another thing I noticed is that they work more efficiently once they've cooled down. In fact, the description mentions that if the current is more than 15A, the cooling should be increased. I connected a spare CPU case fan and used a baffle to direct airflow over the cooling fins.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Good but not great
