I first wrote a great review on this new Koehler flushless kit. Unfortunately it seems to have been premature. They appear to have fixed the infinite loop purge issue, but these units have additional new issues. #1: Batteries. They really seem to eat them up in just a month or two. I'm not 100% sure that the batteries are the problem, but the sensor's range is getting shorter and shorter and eventually it stops flushing after a relatively short time. Replacing the batteries seems to fix the problem, but they don't give you the multi-tone alarm like the old ones to let you know the battery is the problem. At least that's what I thought until I tried this method on our new two-week-old device and it didn't work right away. It seemed like unplugging the batteries for about 5 minutes and then putting the unit back together would work, but it might actually be worse if this new unit has to be unplugged and restarted every 2 weeks. 🤦♂️ #2: The new sensor looks like a toilet flush handle. What are your guests doing? They try to urge him to flush the toilet. Luckily, Koehler knew this was a dumb idea, so they made sure the sensor didn't break in the process, just popped out of the case and was hanging by a wire. Literally every person who has used our toilet when they come in breaks it and you have to go in and put the sensor unit back into the body which loosens more and more over time until the double sided tape they use to stick it falls off Your toilet and then your $80 sensor hangs from a wire on the side of your toilet. The crux of the matter is that Koehler uses its customer base as a product testing department. We've had 3 of these toilets for about 5 years now and it hasn't even been a year since we haven't had to change the flush on 2 or 3 of them. Spare Parts. We actually have a spare sensor/flush unit on hand so we now eliminate the 1 week downtime waiting for parts. Annual maintenance costs, lack of reliability. These devices are absolutely NOT what you want in your toilets. Unfortunately, all of our toilets came pre-installed with these devices, so I can't just reinstall the handle and get rid of this nonsense. Or the fight will continue until Koehler abandons the concept and we end up having to replace all the toilets. We are very disappointed in the Koehler brand for bringing this early beta testing concept to market at a premium price point.
