Review on Hyde 09170 Drywall Vacuum Sander by Satish Greener

Revainrating 3 out of 5

If you don't use hot mud, you don't need it.

If using a general purpose caulk (pre-mixed) use a damp sponge to smooth it out - you'll get a much better finish and no dust (instead of just 90% vacuuming). If you use powdered "hot mud" then the sponge technique won't work as it hardens like concrete and doesn't dry like /mud/. Take the time to get it as smooth as possible to reduce the amount of sanding, apply an extra layer of dirt to get indentations, and use your knife to chip off any protrusions and you may be able to do the sanding altogether avoid. If you absolutely have to grind hot dirt, it will pick up about 90% of the dust. Use a pen with metal or wooden filaments, my plastic filaments broke off. Also, use a fine mesh - the 130 grit it comes with not only removes a lot of material but also leaves deep scratches. Instead of changing the grit and re-sanding, I covered it with a top coat of dirt to cover up the scratches, then scraped it down with a knife after it was dry to remove a few high lines. I would not buy this product again. but every time I do a job, I like to try something new. It was worth the experience, but will probably end up in a flea market after sitting in the garage for a while.
