Good value for small jobs

I am amused by negative reviews from people who bought the cheapest product they could find on Revain and were then disappointed that it didn't work as well as it did the tool for contractors $350. Let's be realistic. This is a $25 instrument, not a fancy dance top with professional gear. However, it did what I needed pretty well. I had many small wall repairs and a few ceiling sections that I cut out and replaced due to a leak. I've already done three rooms and I'm happy with the results. It…

It will not fit a 1-7/8 " wet/dry hose.

I have a RIDGID 4 gallon wet and dry vacuum (Model #WD4070) with a 1-7/ 8". The hose fitting adapter on this HYDE 09170 will not fit 1-7/8" hoses. Haven't found a solution yet to get it working with my wet/dry vacuum. They advertise a hose adapter that fits "all" wet/dry hoses, but it fits a 1-1/4", 1-1/2" or 2-1/2" (according to HYDE website), but 1-7 /8". The Revain.com image shows two sizes of hose coupling adapters included, however only one type is included. The manufacturer's packaging I…

The only review you need to read

In terms of dust, this product performs much better than expected, but it has one major flaw that others have pointed out. If you've used die sanders before, you'll need to pay a little more attention to this one, as it will "tilt" on its side if you're sanding the wide edge first. In particular, a kickback will tip the entire head onto its side and may damage the wall. This happens with other grinders, but not as often. Solution: Drive slower and grind diagonally. You'll feel it, but it can be

If you don't use hot mud, you don't need it.

If using a general purpose caulk (pre-mixed) use a damp sponge to smooth it out - you'll get a much better finish and no dust (instead of just 90% vacuuming). If you use powdered "hot mud" then the sponge technique won't work as it hardens like concrete and doesn't dry like /mud/. Take the time to get it as smooth as possible to reduce the amount of sanding, apply an extra layer of dirt to get indentations, and use your knife to chip off any protrusions and you may be able to do the sanding…

3 Stars Push it

Almost 100% no dust. This is where the good ends. If you have a powerful vacuum cleaner, this item will be very difficult to sand. Even with the vents on the handle fully open, the suction is too strong and the resistance when moving the grinder on the wall is almost overwhelming. When I tried a less powerful vacuum, the sanding was still difficult, but better than my big shop vacuum. Unfortunately, once I sanded it, it would scratch the wall and keep flipping over, leaving deep gouges in the…

This grinder sucks

The grinder looks harmless out of the box. Looks like a standard grinder with the addition of vacuum tube attachments. The preparation is the same as with any commercial grinder. The grips that hold the sanding pads in place are easy to use and use a mechanical compression grip to grip and hold the sanding pad in place. You pay. I was expecting some flimsy plastic junk to be "good enough" but was pleasantly surprised. Everything is fine until you hang it on the wall and try to use it for its…

You need the right tool and the right expectations for the job.

I sand drywall with this product and it's perfect for the job. If you're sanding a little harder or rougher, I would at least go for a coarser sanding grid than the medium grit that comes with the kit. It may be wiser to consider the higher-end professional version (09180). Complaints about the suction being too strong to push the sanding block against the wall are related to the power of the particular vacuum cleaner. The device has adjustable rings to control suction flow, but the differences

It would be five if it weren't for the problems.

Would be great but as others have pointed out the flex point is too loose and if you drag sideways for a long access the unit will tip over and probably damage the wall. I haven't looked at mine but others have reported that the flexible head is riveted and therefore won't tighten. Works great on a low wall to rest your head against, but sucks on a ceiling. The only way out is to grind strictly along the short side. This defeats the purpose of feathering the seams. The head appears to be…
