I sent back due to a loose seal

I wanted to like it. I really made it. We drive a 2016 Kia Sedona LX. I love saving money, but the amount of money that can be saved on these engine air filters isn't as impressive as it is on *cabin filters, and as I argue below, not worth the risk. I compared these filters side by side. , brand new, also comes with a brand new factory Kia OEM filter which I just bought from my dealer. The cost was $24 compared to about $16. Save up? Yes. But not enough to justify not having the original filter which was designed for use with the Sedona and I understand other Kia and Hyundai vehicles. Problem? quality control. When I inspected the Premium Guard filter, everything looks great. The overall construction is similar and the number of folds is identical to the Kia original. BUT. The rubber seal on the edge of the filter has enough play and can be easily pulled away from the filter housing housing over the entire circumference. On the Kia factory filter, the gasket fits very tightly around the entire perimeter of the filter. For that reason alone I'm sending it back. If this seal moves even slightly during operation, more contaminants can enter the engine and wear it out prematurely. This is the sole purpose of an air filter; to provide sufficient airflow to ensure complete combustion while preventing particulate matter from entering the engine. Myself? I'd rather spend the extra $8 on the filter and buy a factory OEM filter. Engines cost thousands of dollars to replace and it would be foolish to skimp on those filters just to cause an engine to fail prematurely. Hooray!

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Not happy with everything
