Review on πŸ”§ AECCN 8-in-1 Ratcheting Multi-Bit Screwdriver Set, Impact Rated Stubby Screwdriver with Adjustable Magnetic Tool and Phillips, Slotted, Square, and Nut Driver - FO-6009X by Gary Hall

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sturdy but clumsy. 3.5 stars

Dreamed of such a screwdriver: A short handle with a telescopic shaft. So I jumped at it as soon as I saw it. I am more disappointed than my rating in the review suggests. As you can see, the look and design of this screwdriver is great. The intelligent telescopic shaft is the highlight of this screwdriver. The bits are neatly hidden in the handle and easily accessible; I keep my nails very short and even I have no problem lifting the top of the pen to access the attachments. However, the coverage remains. The handle appears to be bulletproof. I literally have a feeling this screwdriver's handle would be fine if it fell down several floors and got hit by a car after hitting the ground. So what's the disappointment factor? ratchet mechanism. The ratchet mechanism on this screwdriver is the most clumsy and unreliable mechanism I've ever had the displeasure of using. The ratchet jams, grabs, loosens randomly, and has zero sequence. One moment the ratchet is sticky and difficult to operate and feels like it's full of stale sticky grease only to spin freely and the next moment it feels like the ratchet has broken. To be honest, I just lock the ratchet and use this tool like a regular non-ratchet screwdriver. However, I was given this screwdriver to access some fasteners on my motorcycle. There are some fasteners in places where a short grip is needed and the telescoping stock is extremely useful. And on a pair of clasps, the ratchet handle makes a tricky little job very easy. So the lack of a secure ratcheting handle is a bummer here, although I can get this screwdriver to work just fine by locking the ratchet and turning the screwdriver by hand all the way to the stop. If the ratchet in this screwdriver was even moderately good, I would give this tool five stars and praise it. If this screwdriver didn't have such a solid body and sleek, thoughtful design, I would give it one star. Hence my decision to give 3.5 stars.
